Do Harringtons Products Contain Purines, and What Are the Levels?

  • Updated

Harringtons products may naturally contain purines, as these compounds are found in certain ingredients, especially meats. Purines are present in foods due to their natural occurrence in cells and are highest in organ meats. They aren’t added to recipes but are inherent in the ingredients used. Here’s more information on purine content in Harringtons products and advice on diet suitability for pets with specific health conditions.

Purine Levels in Harringtons Products
Harringtons recipes contain relatively low levels of organ meat and moderate meat content overall. Therefore, purine levels in our foods tend to be lower compared to high-protein formulas or “80:20” recipes that contain significant quantities of organ meat. While we don’t test specifically for purines—there is no industry or regulatory requirement to do so, as per FEDIAF guidelines and our BRC-approved quality standards—our food generally aligns with lower purine content due to its ingredient profile.

Important Considerations for Pets with Specific Health Conditions
If your pet has health concerns such as arthritis, diabetes, or reduced kidney function, a low-purine diet may be beneficial. However, we recommend discussing your pet’s specific needs with your veterinarian, who can advise on a diet tailored to support these health conditions. Please note that our products are crafted for general pet nutrition and aren’t intended to meet the needs of pets with specific medical conditions. Your veterinarian may advise on a specialised veterinary diet in these cases.
