How can I transition my pet to Harringtons food from another brand or type of food?

  • Updated

Suddenly switching your pet’s food—whether from another brand, or even a different type of food including home-cooked meals—can sometimes cause problems. Rapid changes in diet may lead to digestive upset or hesitation to eat, as pets often need time to adjust to new tastes and textures. With a little patience, you can help your pet adjust smoothly and maintain healthy digestion. To ensure a seamless transition, we recommend gradually introducing your pet's new Harringtons food over a 14-day period.

Follow this simple guide for switching your pet’s food:

  • Days 1-4: Mix 20% new food with 80% of your pet’s previous food
  • Days 5-7: Adjust the mix to 40% new and 60% previous food
  • Days 8-10: Transition to 60% new and 40% previous food
  • Days 11-13: Increase to 80% new and 20% previous food
  • Day 14: Fully switch to the new food

This gradual approach helps your pet adjust to the new taste and texture while minimising any digestive discomfort.

If your pet still hesitates or shows any digestive issues, consult your vet for additional guidance.
